TMT Rebar Threading & Couplers

A rebar coupler is a technical product that is necessary when long length of bar is required. The primary work of this coupler in reinforcement is to join the two TMT bars for continuous reinforcement. The rebar coupler is used in all the constructions, such as constructions of buildings, bridges, dams, towers, etc.\

Rebar couplers are used in the RCC structures to replace the system of lapping and welding in reinforcement. When there is a need for long length bars or when joining the additional bars to the end of existing bars, the lapping system is applied that is the bars are tied by a wire next to each over. In the same way as lapping, welding is also processed where unlike tied by wire, the bars are attached by welding.

Since there is a wastage of bar in the lapping system and welding system, an alternative system is used known as a rebar coupler or the coupler in reinforcement that provides an end-to-end connection for the continuous reinforcement of a structure. The coupler in reinforcement is used since it is economical and cost-efficient unlike the lapping system, where some part of the bar is wasted due to lapping.
The rebar coupler is particularly cost-efficient for large diameter bars in the various projects of construction and construction of skyscrapers. The rebar couplers are also commonly known as mechanical splices.

Couplers over traditional methods
❉ Reducing rebar congestion in reinforced columns and improving flow of concrete.
❉ Eliminating cavities of honeycomb in concrete element.
❉ Insufficient spacing for lap splicing of rebars.
❉ Speed in construction of projects and reducing the size of concrete sections and pillars.
❉ Connecting precast members with full tension splice.
❉ Avoid the use of expensive starter rebar boxes and protect expensive formwork from being damaged by starter bars.
❉ Reduce steel consumption, labour cost, and accelerate job schedule with easier coupling.
❉ More reliable than lap splicing as mechanical splices don’t depend on concrete for load transfer.
❉ High tensile and compression capacity of reinforced structure maintaining greater structural integrity where design structure demands high tensile load capabilities.
